Album of the Famiglia Artistica
The large album covered in parchment with silver decorations, was given to the Master by the Famiglia Artistica, a Milanese association formed in 1872; its first director was the painter Vespasiano Bignami. It was a thank-you for having received a gift of the piano-vocal score of Falstaff in 1893. It contains the signatures of all the members.
Baton
The ivory baton with the initial V in diamonds was given to the Master by the chorus of the Cologne Theater on the occasion of the 1877 Musikfest.
Lyre
The gilded metal lyre, originally covered by a thin layer of white enamel (of which only a few traces on the sides can still be seen), was presented by the Paris Opéra at the time of the Aida of March 1880.
Crown of laurel leaves
The crown of laurel leaves was given to Giuseppe Verdi by the citizens of Florence on the occasion of the world premiere of Macbeth there on 14 March 1847.
Silver plate
On the embossed, burnished silver plate one can read the dedication of Romilda Pantaleoni, soprano, first interpreter of Desdemona: “To the immortal author of Otello”.
Laurel branch on a shield
The imposing laurel branch set onto a blue velvet shield was sent to Master Verdi by the Italian singers at the Teatro San Carlo in Lisbon on 5 February 1887. |
